Precautions for Using Pressure Transmitters

2025-10-14
When using pressure transmitters, it is indeed necessary to pay attention to a series of issues to ensure their normal operation and extend their service life. The following are six key points that are expected to help you use pressure transmitters better:

1. Voltage Limitation

Precaution: Do not apply a voltage higher than 36V to the transmitter; otherwise, the transmitter may be damaged.
Explanation: Excessive voltage will burn out the internal electronic components of the transmitter, rendering it inoperable.

2. Avoid Contact with Diaphragm by Hard Objects

Precaution: Do not touch the transmitter’s diaphragm with hard objects, as this may damage the isolation diaphragm.
Explanation: The diaphragm is one of the core components of a pressure transmitter. It is used to sense the pressure of the measured medium and convert it into an electrical signal. Once the diaphragm is damaged, the transmitter will not be able to measure pressure accurately.

3. Prevent Freezing of the Measured Medium

Precaution: Freezing of the measured medium is not allowed; otherwise, it will damage the isolation diaphragm of the sensor element and cause the transmitter to fail.
Explanation: Freezing leads to volume expansion, which exerts excessive pressure on the sensor element and further damages the diaphragm. Therefore, when using the transmitter in a cold environment, temperature protection measures should be taken to prevent freezing.

4. Heat Dissipation When Measuring High-Temperature Media

Precaution: When measuring steam or other high-temperature media, the temperature should not exceed the maximum operating temperature of the transmitter. If it does, a heat dissipation device must be used.
Explanation: High temperatures can damage the internal electronic components and diaphragm of the transmitter. Therefore, when measuring high-temperature media, a heat dissipation device is required to lower the operating temperature of the transmitter and ensure its normal operation.

5. Use and Precautions for Heat Dissipation Pipes

Precaution: When measuring steam or other high-temperature media, a heat dissipation pipe should be used to connect the transmitter to the pipeline, and the pressure from the pipeline should be transmitted to the transmitter. When the measured medium is water vapor, an appropriate amount of water should be injected into the heat dissipation pipe to prevent superheated steam from directly contacting the transmitter and damaging the sensor.
Explanation: The heat dissipation pipe can effectively reduce the temperature of the measured medium and prevent it from directly impacting and damaging the transmitter. At the same time, injecting an appropriate amount of water can further lower the temperature of the steam and protect the sensor from damage.

6. Precautions During Pressure Transmission

Precautions:
  • No air leakage is allowed at the connection between the transmitter and the heat dissipation pipe.
  • Be careful when opening the valve to prevent the measured medium from directly impacting and damaging the sensor diaphragm.
  • The pipeline must be kept unobstructed to prevent sediments in the pipeline from being dislodged and damaging the sensor diaphragm.
Explanation: Air leakage will lead to inaccurate measurements and even damage the transmitter; direct impact on the sensor diaphragm will cause damage to it; sediments in the pipeline will block the pipeline, affect measurement accuracy, and even damage the sensor diaphragm. Therefore, special attention should be paid to these issues during pressure transmission.

Summary

When using pressure transmitters, the above six precautions must be strictly followed to ensure their normal operation and extend their service life. At the same time, regular maintenance and upkeep of the transmitter are also required to detect and resolve problems in a timely manner.
